Spicy Egg Thokku || Muttai Thokku


Egg thokku is delicious quick Indian dish made using boiled eggs. Eggs are high source of protein. It is rich in antioxidants. It is highly nutritious and healthy. 

Egg are a good source of vitamins. It is healthy to include eggs in your diet. It goes well with pulao, plain rice, roti, naan and variety rice recipes.

Egg thokku is best side dish for lunch box recipes. Egg thokku is spicy but it tastes so yummy. Here goes the simple method of egg thokku recipe..

Ingredients:

Egg-5
Small onion-3
Ripe tomatoes-1
Ginger garlic paste-1 tsp
Green chilies-2
Curry leaves-few
Garam masala-1 tsp
Chilly powder-1 tsp
Mustard & urad dal-1 tbsp
Salt-as needed
Oil-3 spoon
Coriander powder-1 tsp
Egg curry masala-1 tsp
Turmeric powder-1 tsp
Coriander leaves-few

Method:

  • In a sauce pan add some water and heat it. Add raw eggs and boil for 7-10 min. 
  • Remove the shells and cut the Keep it aside.
  • In a pan, add a spoon of oil and heat it. Add boiled eggs, turmeric powder, chili powder and salt. Sauté for a minute and cool it.
  • In a cooking pan add some oil and heat it. Add mustard, urad dal, green chilies, curry leaves one by one . Saute for few seconds. 
  • Add chopped onion, ginger garlic paste, salt. Cook till raw smell goes off. Add chopped tomatoes, a cracked egg, spice powders and mix well.
  • Cook for 5 minutes till tomatoes are soft and mushy. Check for salt. Add if required. 
  • Now add toasted boiled eggs. Reduce the flame to simmer. Mix slightly without breaking the eggs. Add some coriander leaves and serve.
  • Serve this spicy egg thokku as side dish for roti, curd rice, sambar rice, plain rice, rasam rice and dosa and more.

Note:
  • Vegetarians use the same method with potatoes.
