Instant pot Tomato Biriyani


Tomato Biriyani is easy and unique South Indian style of recipe made using tomatoes. Tomato biriyani is known as thakkali biriyani and it is very famous recipe made in one pot. Biriyani is made with Rice, spices, tomatoes and other ingredients added in right proportion. 

Tomato Biriyani is ever delicious and quick one pot meal recipe. Tomato biriyani can be made with pressure cooker or in any cooking pot. Tomato biriyani is most common lunch box recipes. Here in this recipe a very special and easy method of Tomato Biriyani is made in Instant pot.

Ingredients:
Ripe Big tomatoes-2
Sona masoori rice-2 cup
Chilly powder-1 tsp
Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
Green chilies-2
Red onion-2
Butter-2 tbsp
Olive oil-2 tbsp
Mint leaves- 1 fistful 
Coriander leaves-few
Ginger-garlic paste-1 tbsp

Spices:
Bay leaves-2
Black stone flower-1
Mace-1
Star anise-1
Nutmeg powder-1/2 tsp
Clove-1
Cinnamon-1 small stick
Fennel seeds-1 tsp

Method for ginger garlic paste:
Ginger-2 inch
Garlic-6 cloves
Cloves-4
Cinnamon-1 stick
Cardamom-3
  • Grind the above ingredients to coarse paste and keep aside.

Method:
  • Add some oil in insta pot and press saute button to heat it.
  • Add the given spices and saute for few seconds.


  • Add chopped onions, green chilies, ginger-garlic paste and saute for few seconds until the onion gets translucent. 
  • Now add chopped tomatoes, spice powders, required salt and cook until tomatoes gets mashed. 

  • Add some chopped mint and coriander leaves. Cook for few minutes.

  • Add washed rice over the biriyani masala. Add 4 cups of water, required salt and mix well. 
  • Add remaining butter, coriander and mint leaves. 
  • Press rice/egg option for 5 minutes to cook rice.
  • To release the pressure use quick release option. Mix slightly with spatula. Serve with onion or cucumber raita.


Note:
  • Use fresh and ripe tomatoes for better taste and color.
  • Use coconut milk in biriyani for variation.
  • Add ghee fried cashew nuts.
  • Use any flavored rice like seeraga samba or basmati rice for more taste.
