Mochai kaara Kulambu || Field beans Curry
Beans are a high source of fiber, protein and helps to maintain healthy weight. Field beans are rich in B vitamins, folate, fiber and protein. It helps in boosting immunity. Field bean/Mochai is used to make curry recipes, stir fry and more. Mochai kottai is the name for field bean in Tamil and Vaal in Hindi.
Mochai kaara kulambu can be made in different ways. Here in this recipe I have added some vegetables which gives different flavor to the curry and tamarind added with masala gives slight tangy taste. Coconut slices added in the curry gives flavor and richness to the curry. Here goes the recipe..
Ingredients:
Mochai kottai/ Field beans-1 cup(50 gms)
Drumstick-2(small size)
Raw banana-1/2
Baby potatoes-2
Eggplant-2
Garlic-10 cloves
Tomato-1
Sesame oil/Coconut oil -2 spoons
Red onion-1
Red chilly-1
Mustard & urad dal-1 tbsp
Cumin seeds-1/4 tsp
Sambar powder-1 tbsp
Coriander powder-1 tbsp
Coconut-2 pieces
Tamarind-gooseberry size
Salt-as needed
Curry leaves-few
Cooking Beans:
- Soak the dry beans overnight and pressure cook for 2 whistle or In a vessel add some water and boil it.
- Add soaked beans and cook for 15 min in medium flame and keep aside.
Ingredients for masala paste:
- In a pan add some oil and heat it. Add roughly chopped onion, garlic and saute for few minutes.
- Then add tomatoes and cook till it is soft.
- Cool mixture and add 2 slices of coconut, sambar powder, coriander powder and grind it to fine paste.
Method for curry:
- In another pan add some oil and heat it.
- Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chilies, curry leaves one by one and saute for few seconds.
- Add chopped drumstick, potatoes, raw banana, eggplant and saute for a minute.
- Add salt, turmeric powder, chilly powder, tamarind water and mix well.
- Let it boil for a minute. Add masala paste and required water.
- Cook till raw smell from masala goes off.
- Add cooked beans and wait till oil separates from curry.
- Add chopped coriander leaves and serve with hot rice or Idly.
