Ingredients
For the curry
Onion – 1 (chopped)
Green chilies – 2 (slit)
Curry leaves – few
Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
Urad dal – ½ tsp
Oil – 2 tbsp
Potatoes – 2 (cubed)
Salt – to taste
Water – as required
To grind
Coconut – 4 to 5 slices
Fennel seeds – 1 tbsp
Fried gram (pottukadalai) – 2 tbsp
Cloves – 3
Cinnamon – 1 small piece
Ripe tomatoes – 2 (chopped)
Method
- Grind all the ingredients listed under “To grind” into a smooth paste and keep aside.
- Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and urad dal; let them splutter.
- Add curry leaves, green chilies, and chopped onion. Sauté until onions turn soft.
- Add cubed potatoes and sauté for 2 minutes.
- Pour in the ground tomato masala and mix well.
- Add required water and salt. Cover and cook until potatoes are soft and curry thickens.
- Switch off the flame once oil separates slightly on top.
- Serve hot with idly, dosa, and chapati.
