Coconut Red-Chilly Chutney

 


Coconut chutney is one of the great combination for South Indian breakfast and snack recipes. Coconut chutney is traditional South Indian side dish served in most of breakfast and snack recipes made with fresh coconut, spices and salt.

Coconut chutney can be made in different variations using green chilies, red chilies, adding ginger, garlic, curry leaves or coriander leaves and later it is tempered with some oil, chilies and curry leaves and add the tadka over coconut chutney.

 The aroma from sauted red chilies and curry leaves gives flavor to chutney. Here goes one method of coconut chutney..

Ingredients:

Fried gram(pottukadalai)-1/4 cup
Red chilies-3
Garlic-2 clove
Curry leaves-few
Mustard & Urad dal-1 tsp
Coconut(shredded)-1/2 cup
Salt-1 tsp
Water-1/2 cup


Method:

  • In a mixer jar add shredded coconut, fried gram, 2 red chilies, garlic and salt. 
  • Grind it to a coarse powder. Add required water and check for salt. 
  • Add tadka to chutney and serve. 
  • Coconut chutney suits for Rice Idly, Tomato Idly, Moong Dosa, Tomato Dosa, Lobia Dosa, Plain Dosa and Vada recipes.
