Ragi Idly || Finger millet Idly
Idly is one of the healthy breakfast in South Indian recipes. Idly is made with urad dal and rice. Idlies are steam cooked and easily digestible.
Idlies are rich in protein. Idly recipe can be made with any rice, or millets but traditional method of idly is made using white rice.
Ragi/finger millet is rich in fiber and calcium. It help to lower cholesterol levels. Ragi is the best food for weight loss.
Ragi/finger millet can be used to make roti, idlies, vermicelli, porridge, chapathi and more.
Ragi/finger millet idlies are soft and fluffy rice cakes made with brown rice, ragi millet flour and urad dal.
Ingredients:
Brown/white rice-2 cup
Urad dal-1/2 cup
Salt-as needed
Ragi/Finger millet flour-4 tbsp
Method:
- Soak brown rice and urad dal for 4-6 hrs and grind it to coarse batter. Leave it to few hours for fermentation.
- Add required salt into the batter. Add Ragi flour and mix well.
- Make soft idlies and serve with coconut chutney, Tomato chutney or Tiffin sambar.
Note:
- Use whole finger millet instead of Finger millet flour while making batter.
- Using ragi flour is instant method of making ragi idlies or dosas.
- Use red rice, black rice or any other millets instead of brown rice.
