Tomato-Garlic chutney



Tomato-garlic chutney is one of popular chutney in South Indian recipes. Tomato-garlic chutney is made with fresh and ripe tomatoes, garlic, spices, dal and salt. Tomato chutney is mainly served as side dish for dosa, Idly, chapathi recipes. 

This is one of the best side dish for dosa and Idly. This chutney is made with groundnut oil which is more healthier and tastes good. Tomato chutney can be made in different styles using ginger, herbs, dal, onions, and garlic. Here goes the recipe of simple and easy tomato chutney..

Ingredients:
Ripe tomatoes-2
Garlic-4 cloves
Red chilies-2
Urad dal-1 tbsp
Chana dal-1 tbsp
Small Onion-10
Salt-as needed

To temper:
Curry leaves- few
Mustard seeds & Urad dal-1 tsp
Hing-1/4 tsp
Red chilies-2


Method:

  • In a pan add some oil and heat it. 
  • Add chana dal, urad dal, and red chilies one by one and saute until urad dal turns golden brown. 
  • In the same pan add some oil and add onion, garlic and saute till onions are transparent. 
  • Add tomatoes, salt and saute well.  Allow the mixture to cool for some time.
  • Add the roasted ingredients into the mixer grinder and grind it to a coarse paste.
  • Transfer to a bowl and add tadka over it. 
  • Serve this delicious chutney with Idly, Dosa, paniyaram and chapathi.
Note:
  • Add the spice level according to your taste.
  • Add shredded coconut for better taste.
  • Add small piece of tamarind if the tomatoes are not ripe.
