Black-eyed peas/Lobia curry

Black-eyed beans are known by various names, including black-eyed peas, cowpea, and China pea. This legume originated in Africa and is now widely consumed across the world.

The name cowpea comes from its traditional use as animal feed, although it is also an important food crop for humans. Black-eyed beans are rich in protein, dietary fiber, and vitamin A, making them a nutritious addition to a balanced diet.

In the American South, eating black-eyed peas along with greens on New Year’s Day is believed to bring good luck, prosperity, and wealth for the coming year.
