Tomato Chutney
Tomato Chutney is one of popular chutney in South Indian recipes. Tomato chutney is made with fresh and ripe tomatoes, garlic, spice powders and salt. Tomato chutney is mainly served as side dish for dosa, Idly, chapathi recipes.
This is one of the best side dish for dosa and Idly. It is also known as Tomato Thokku in tamil. This chutney is made with sesame oil which is more healthier and tastes good. Tomato chutney can be made in different styles using ginger, dal, onions, and garlic. Here goes the recipe of simple and easy tomato chutney..
Ingredients:
Ripe tomatoes-5(medium size)
Garlic cloves-3
Salt-as needed
Hing-1/2tsp
Turmeric powder-1 tsp
Chilly powder-1 tsp
Curry leaves-few
Kashmiri red chilly powder-1 tsp
For Tadka:
Sesame oil-2 tbsp
Curry leaves-1 string
Mustard & urad dal- 1tbsp
Method:
- In a mixer jar add roughly chopped tomatoes, garlic and grind it to fine paste and keep aside. Add some oil in a pan and heat it. Add mustard & urad dal, once it sputters add curry leaves, and hing.
- Now add the ground paste, chilly powders, turmeric powder and salt. Mix with spatula and close the lid.
- Allow it to cook for 5 minutes. Mix well and check tomato juice will be absorbed and oil seperates from it. This is the consistency for tomato chutney.
Note:
- Chutney can be refrigerated for 3-4 days.
- Store in dry and clean airtight container.
