Tomato Idly

 


Idly is one of the healthy breakfast in South Indian recipes. Idly is made with urad dal and rice. It is a soft and fluffy rice cake. 

Idlies are steam cooked and easily digestible. Idlies are rich in protein. 

Idlies can be made in different types using rice, ragi(finger millet), rava(sooji), millets, Moong dal, brown rice, tomato and more. Traditional method of idlies are made with rice and urad dal.

 Idly is a healthy food made in different varieties as tomato idly, podi idly, vegetable idly, fenugreek idly, Moong dal idly and more. Here goes the tomato idly recipe..

Ingredients:

Ripe tomatoes-2

Idly rice-2 cups

Hing-1/4 tsp

Yellow Moong dal-2 tbsp

Urad dal-1/4 cup

Salt- as needed 

Red chillies-4

Curry leaves-1 string

 

Method:

  • Soak rice, urad dal, moong dal for 3 hrs. 
  • In a bowl add some warm water and soak the red chilies for sometime. 
  • In a mixer grinder, add soaked red chilies, curry leaves, and tomatoes one by one and grind for few minutes. 
  • Then add soaked rice, dal and grind to a coarse paste. 
  • Add required salt while grinding the batter. Add some hing and mix well. Make soft idlies and serve with coconut chutney or any green chutney.


Note:
  • Add your favorite vegetables in idly batter. 
  • Make colorful vegetable Idlies.
