Kondakadalai Sundal/Black Chickpeas sundal



KONDAKADALAI SUNDAL

Kondakadalai sundal is one of the special dish cooked in south India during Navarathri and Ganesh chathurthi festival as prasad. 

Kondakadalai sundal can also be known in various names as black channa, black chickpeas, kaala channa. Black channa can be served as side dish for variety rice like lemon rice, curd rice. 

Kondakadalai sundal can be a great combination for evening snack with tea or coffee. Kala channa is also known as Chole in north India. Chole masala/channa masala is made using white/black chickpeas. Here goes the simple and easy stir fry recipe..




Ingredients:

Black channa-1 cup(100 gm)

Oil-2 tbsp

Onion-1

Green chilies-2

Curry leaves-few

Hing-1/4 tsp

Chilly powder-1/2 tsp

Cumin/Jeera powder-1/2 tsp

Garam masala-1/2 tsp

Salt- as needed 

Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp

Shredded coconut-2 tbsp

 

Method:

  • Soak channa in water overnight. Wash and pressure cook channa with 2 cups of water, little salt for 3-4 whistles and keep aside.
  • In a pan, add some oil and heat it. Add mustard seeds, urad dal, onions, green chilies, & curry leaves one by one and mix well.


  • Now add cooked black channa, spice powders and some salt.
  •  Mix well and cook for another one minute till raw smell from masala goes off.




  • Then add shredded coconut and mix well. Serve hot.
