Oats-Vegetable porridge/Kanji


Oats is a cereal grain used in foods. Oats can also be used to cook variety of dishes like porridge, cookies, cereals, soups and so many recipes.

Oats is commonly taken for breakfast as Oatmeal. It can be used with milk, fruits and nuts or the other way as spicy with vegetables, onions, chillies and other spices. Here I would like to share oatmeal as soup recipe. Here goes the recipe..


Ingredients:
Oats-5 tbsp( Coarse grind)

Vegetables- 1 cup

Oil- 1 tbsp

Mustard & Urad dal -1/4 tsp

Green chilies-2

Garlic-2 pods

Onion-1

Pepper powder-1/4 tsp

Herb Seasoning-1/4 tsp(optional)

Cumin seeds-1/4 tsp

Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp

Water -2 cups


Method:

  1. In a pan, add some oil and heat it. Add mustard, urad dal, green chilies, garlic, onion, cumin seeds one by one and saute well. 
  2. Add turmeric powder, pepper powder, vegetables of your choice (carrot, beans, sweet corn, peas, pepper) and saute well. 
  3. Now add salt and water. Let it boil for 5 minutes.
  4.  Then add coarse ground oats powder and mix well. Add some more water and check for salt. 
  5. Now the porridge gets thicker. Keep mixing till it gets soup consistency. Add herb seasoning and mix well. Switch off. Serve hot.
