Country Chicken Chukka || Chicken Varuval




Chicken varuval/chukka is delicious and flavorful chicken recipe cooked using oil or ghee. Chicken chukka/varuval is a South Indian special dry/semi gravy chicken recipe used as side dish for rice, chapathi and Idly. Chicken varuval is spicy and it is prepared quickly. Chicken chukka is prepared using country chicken which is aromatic and more delicious. Here goes the easy and tasty recipe..


Ingredients:

Chicken-1/2 kg

Sesame oil-50ml

Ginger-garlic paste-1tbsp

Small onions(shallots)-10

Green chilies-3

Chilly powder-1 tsp

Tomato-1/2

Turmeric-1tsp

Curry leaves-few

Coriander powder-1/2tbsp

Coriander leaves-few

Chicken varuval masala -1tbsp

Coriander seeds-1tbsp

Coconut slices-15

Salt-as needed  

 

Method:

  • First clean the chicken with turmeric and salt.
  • Add some sesame oil in a pan and allow it to heat. Then add mustard seeds. When it splutters, add chopped onions, green-chilies, curry leaves and little salt. Sauté till onions get translucent.
  • Add ginger-garlic  paste, cleaned chicken, turmeric and chilly powder. 
  • Mix well and leave it to cook for 10 to 15 min. 
  • Now chicken cooked well. Then check for salt and add remaining masala powders one by one. Mix well. 
  • After adding masala powder adjust your burner to simmer. Close the lid and leave it for another 5min till oil separates from gravy.
  • In a mixer jar add coriander seeds and grind for few seconds to split the coriander seeds.
  •  Add sliced coconut, coriander seeds and mix well. Add some chopped coriander leaves.
  •  Serve hot with rice, chapathi, idli and dosa. Very yummy recipe.
