Aloo Poha/Red rice Poha
Poha is known as flattened rice or beaten rice used for breakfast, snack and dinner. It is easily digestible and very popular across India.
Poha is used for various dishes like desserts, dosa, idli, upma, soups and so on. It is steam cooked and can be used in plenty of recipes.
Red rice poha is flattened poha made from red rice. It is high in nutrition compared to white rice flakes/poha.
Aloo poha is famous in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. Aloo poha is also called as batata poha. This recipe can be made with potatoes, onion, chilies, peanuts and curry leaves. Along with that adding lemon juice will give tangy taste. Try out this healthy Indian breakfast.
Ingredients:
Red poha-1 cup
Green chilies-2
Lemon juice -2 tbsp
Ginger-1 tbsp(shredded)
Small Onions-2
Peanuts-20
Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
Mustard & Urad dal-1 tbsp
Curry leaves- few
Coriander leaves-few
Oil-2tbsp
Potato fry ingredients:
Potato-1
Hing-1/2 tsp
Salt-1/4 tsp
Chilly powder-1/4 tsp
Oil-2 tbsp
Method:
- Wash the poha and soak with water for 2 minutes. Once water absorbed. It is ready to use. See below picture of soaked poha.
- In a pan, add some oil and heat it. Add chopped potato, chilly powder, salt & hing one by one and mix well. Cover with a lid and cook for 2 minutes and once it changes color. Switch off the flame and keep aside.
Method for aloo poha:
- In another pan, add some oil and heat it. Add mustard, urad dal, chopped green chilies, onions, shredded ginger, peanuts & curry leaves one by one and saute well.
- Now add turmeric powder & salt. Then add red poha and saute well.
- Now add fried potato and mix it. Switch off the flame.
- Add lemon juice and coriander leaves and mix well.
- Serve hot with boondi raita or cucumber raita.
